Equity, socioeconomic inequalities and cardiovascular disease.

چکیده

É sobejamente conhecido que as doenças cardiovasculares (DCV) constituem a principal causa de mortalidade e morbilidade nos países desenvolvidos e em vias de desenvolvimento, com consideráveis custos sociais e económicos associados, sendo por isso consideradas um importante problema de saúde pública a que urge dar resposta1--3. De acordo com um recente relatório da Organização Mundial de Saúde (OMS), essa tendência persistirá, pelo menos, até ao ano 20304. Paralelamente, a conjugação de um conjunto de situações vieram criar alguns desafios no âmbito das doenças cardiovasculares, a nível nacional e internacional, entre os quais se destacam: i) o desenvolvimento dos conhecimentos decorrentes da investigação biomédica; ii) as modificações da patologia ao longo do tempo; iii) as alterações demográficas com particular destaque, pelas suas profundas implicações, para o aumento da esperança de vida; iv) os estilos de vida e consequente aumento dos fatores de risco (destacando-se tabagismo, sedentarismo, diabetes, obesidade, hipertensão, para destacar apenas alguns); v) a crescente incorporação de novas tecnologias e diferentes estratégias terapêuticas na prática clínica, cada vez mais avançadas, sofisticadas e dispendiosas; vi) a busca de sistemas de prestação com a máxima qualidade e segurança; vii) a espiral de crescimento dos custos
